City of Oak Creek
Common Council Report
Meeting Date: July 19, 2005
Item No.: 17
Recommendation: That the Common Council approve the recommendation of the Street Superintendent to purchase salt from Cargill Salt Company, who was the low bidder for the State salt contract for road salt for the winter season of 2005/2006 at $30.24 per ton.
Background: The Street Department participated in the bid process for road salt through the State contract. There were eight (8) surrounding counties that took part in the bid in an attempt to secure the best price for the purchase of road salt. The State opened bids in May and has recommended Cargill Salt Company as the low qualified bidder. The price includes delivery to the Street Department yard.
Fiscal Impact: The total cost for the 5,500 tons of salt is $166,320.00 which will be budgeted for in the 2006 Street Department operating budget. The cost of salt increased $1.49 per ton over last year’s State Bid.
