Recommendation

That the Common Council adopt Ordinance #2357, An Ordinance Repealing Section 2.46(a) (4) b, and Creating Sections 2.45 (k) and 2.46(a) (12), relating to the establishment of the Street Department and the Position of Street Superintendent.

 

Background

Sometime ago, the Council began the process of amending the Municipal Code to correctly reflect the City’s departmental functions and organization.  The effect of Ordinance #2357 will be that the Street Department is appropriately identified as a regular department, rather than a division of Public Works, and that the position of Street Superintendent is appropriately identified as a department manager.  This change is meant only to recognize existing structure and not to change responsibilities or accountability.
