Recommendation:  That the Common Council approves the recommendation of the Street Superintendent for the purchase of asphalt crack filler from the low bidder Sherwin Industries through the V.A.L.U.E. bid dated January 28, 2004.  The cost of the crack filler is $.229 per pound. This bid has been extended through January 31, 2006 for the same price.

Background:  The City of West Allis led a joint effort with fifteen (15) surrounding communities along with the City of Oak Creek in an effort to reduce spending for the purchase of asphalt crack filler.

In 2003, the City of Oak Creek paid $.232 per pound for crack filler through the V.A.L.U.E. bid.

It is estimated that the City will use 45,000 pounds of crack filler in 2005.

Fiscal Impact:  The Street Department budgeted funds in the amount of $85,000.00 for the purchase of street maintenance materials (account 83640).
