Recommendation: That the Common Council approve the Police Department’s hiring of one Emergency Services Dispatcher.
Background: During the 2006 budget process, the Police Department requested and received approval to create an additional full-time Emergency Services Dispatcher position. The primary reason for this request was to increase the number of dispatchers assigned to second shift from 5 to 6 members. This will enable the Dispatch Center to reach and maintain their goal of a minimum staffing level of three (3) dispatchers during this shift.
The outline of the justifications and deficiencies addressed, which was submitted as part of the Police Department’s 2006 Personnel Request, is attached for your reference.
Fiscal Impact: The salary and benefit cost for this additional dispatcher is $56,175. These funds were appropriated in the Police Department’s 2006 full-time salaries budget.
