City of Oak Creek

Common Council Report

Meeting Date:  January 18, 2005

Item No.:         13

RecommendationThat the Common Council approve the bid from Hastings Air-Energy Control, Inc. for installation of PlymoVent systems in the City’s three fire stations, and that the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to sign the contract for the project.

BackgroundAt the last Council meeting the Council authorized the department to accept the FIRE Act grant for the installation of these systems in the fire stations.  As part of the grant process the department obtained two bids for the work.  Those bids were:

Hastings Air-Energy Control, Inc.                        $189,853

TNC Industries, Inc.                                             $212,390

The PlymoVent system is the industry standard and is in use in many of our surrounding departments. South Milwaukee and Greenfield are two nearby communities using the system.  A committee of employees including the union leadership researched the available systems and determined that PlymoVent was the best answer to removing the harmful byproducts of combustion from the stations.

There will be some modifications needed to vehicle exhaust systems that will be done by City Garage staff and some electrical wiring which will be done by the Facilities Manager.

Fiscal Impact90% of the project cost ($173,567) is being provided for by the FIRE Act grant and the remaining costs will be taken from the 1998 Control Account.
