City of Oak Creek

Common Council Report

Meeting Date:  January 18, 2005

Item No.:         11

Recommendation:  That the Common Council authorize the hiring of a replacement Public Health Nurse (PNH) position totaling 1,250 hours per year.

Background:  Mariana Liebsch, PHN, worked for the City of Oak Creek on a part-time basis for 23.5 years. She began full-time employment with the City of South Milwaukee on January 5, 2005. Her assigned duties included servicing the senior high school health room, immunization clinics, home visits, developmental fairs, contagion control, and emergency government activities.

The Personnel Committee has approved this request at their meeting on January 11th for the filling of the total 1,250 hours, whether by one PHN or two (with a job share). We have applications on file from this past summer so there is not a need to advertise the position. We will interview the candidates once we receive permission to hire.

Fiscal Impact:  The salary range for a PHN is $17.75-$23.75 per hour; the starting wage would be towards the lower end of the range. The position(s) would be a minimum of 600 hours and would include pension benefits.
