Recommendation:  That the Common Council approves the request of the Library Board and recommendation of the Personnel Committee to fill a vacant Reference Librarian position.

Background:  The Library currently has a vacancy in the position of Reference Librarian. Duties of this position include providing reference and reader advisory services to patrons of all ages, collection development in assigned areas and cataloging of print and non-print materials. This individual will also act as librarian-in-charge in the absence of the City Librarian and Assistant City librarian and is an integral part of the library staff. This is a permanent full time position (2,080 hours).

Fiscal Impact: Beginning salary for this position is $18.80 per hour, the first step in a five step range. Funds are currently available in the 2005 library budget.
