City of Oak Creek
Common Council Report
Meeting Date: 09/07/04
Item No.: 7
Recommendation: That the Common Council waive all building permit fees chargeable to the Oak Creek Lions Club for an addition to a pole building on the American Legion grounds.
Background:
The Oak Creek Lions Club has applied for a permit to construct an addition to the pole building currently located on the American Legion grounds on S. Shepard Ave. The addition consists of a 2-car enclosed garage which will house the Lions Club antique fire truck that is used in parades. The building plans also include an open-air overhang extension on the current pole building, of approximately 24’ x 100’. The club members are requesting that City fees related to the building permit and inspections be waived.
The Council faced a similar request in 1996, when it was asked to waive permit fees for the first Lions project. At that time, the Council adopted Resolution#9219-080596, agreeing to waive building permit fees for construction by non-profit groups on lands owned by the City and leased to non-profit groups that serve Oak Creek citizens, contingent on verification that contributions of the group in the 12 months preceding the permit application meet or exceed the value of the permits.
A letter from the Lions Club representative verifying the group’s contributions will be submitted and distributed Tuesday, prior to the meeting.
Fiscal Impact:
The City would forego revenues of approximately $591.00 in inspection and permit fees.
