City of Oak Creek

Common Council Report

Meeting DateSept. 7, 2004

Item No.:         17

Recommendation:  That the Common Council approve the Police Department’s purchase of a SkyJack SJIII 3219 compact electric scissors lift from United Rentals Aerial Equipment in the amount of $8,477.

Background:  In the formulation of the schematic design budget for special equipment for the construction of the new police facility, monies were appropriated for the purchase of a scissors lift. Facilities Manager Dick Kulka has concurred that a scissors lift is a necessity in reaching the high ceilings within the building for inspection and maintenance purposes. In addition, it is his professional preference to purchase a compact lift with a minimum 19 ft. platform height, and one with a stable base upon lifting to its fullest extension.

Four (4) separate quotes were obtained, with United Rentals Aerial Equipment providing the lowest price quotation. Upon review of all quotes and equipment specifications, it is Dick Kulka’s recommendation to purchase the SkyJack SJIII 3219 compact electric scissors lift from United Rentals in the amount of $8,477.

We have attached the product information of the recommended choice for your review. Equipment specifications on the other units are available upon request.

Fiscal Impact:  The fiscal impact will be $8,477. The estimated cost for this equipment at the time of the building budget compilation in 2001 was $7,500. Monies are available in the police building project contingency account #01006 to cover the entire cost of this purchase.
