City of Oak Creek

Common Council Report

Meeting Date:           6/15/04

Item No.:         9

Recommendation:  That the Common Council accept the recommendation of the Electrical Inspection Division to replace the street lighting in the Parkway Estates subdivision with new Lumec street lighting.

Background:  In an ongoing effort to upgrade, improve, and enhance the existing street lighting system, we are proposing to replace 52 street lights in Parkway Estates with the City’s new standard for subdivisions, Lumec street lights.

The reason for the replacement is the age and deteriorated condition of the existing system. Replacing the lights would be expected to reduce the time and material required to maintain the system.

An inspection of this subdivision’s street light system showed that approximately 12 of these street lights would be discarded. The remaining lights would be kept in the City’s street light inventory to be used in maintaining the existing system. The replacement of three or more concrete bases would be required, along with the replacement of some wiring between light poles on an as-needed basis.

The cost of the Lumec light poles as quoted directly from the factory is $1,336 per pole for a total cost of $69,472 for light poles. The cost of the concrete bases is approximately $370 per base, for a total estimated cost of $1,110. The total cost of the project is anticipated to be $70,582.

Funding for the project would come from the street light maintenance budget.

All the work associated with this project will be done Street Light Maintenance and the Streets

Fiscal Impact:  The costs associated with this project are budgeted in 2004 street light maintenance budget
