BY COMMITTEE AS A WHOLE
RESOLUTION OF CONDOLENCE UPON THE DEATH OF
MUNICIPAL JUDGE JOHN E. GRAHOVAC
WHEREAS, the City of Oak Creek has received the sad news that Oak Creek Municipal Judge John E. Grahovac died suddenly at his home on April 25, 2004, and
WHEREAS, John E. Grahovac was elected as the Oak Creek Municipal Judge in July, 1985 and served as the Oak Creek Municipal Judge for nearly 19 years, and
WHEREAS, Judge Grahovac served the City of Oak Creek with distinction and was an outstanding jurist who brought an even temperament to a difficult position and was firm and fair in his decisions, and
WHEREAS, Judge Grahovac took a special interest in juvenile offenders who appeared in his court and treated offenders with fairness and compassion where appropriate, and was strict when necessary, and
WHEREAS, Judge Grahovac was a member of the Racine Downtown Rotary Club, a former member of the Oak Creek Kiwanis Club, and a former member of the Board of Managers of the South Shore YMCA, having served as its chair for two years, and
WHEREAS, Judge Grahovac was Co-chair of the Middle School Plan and Project that helped the School District in changing from the traditional Junior High School to the Middle School model, and
WHEREAS, Judge Grahovac was Co-chair for the Senior High School project and was instrumental in the successful passage of the referendum that resulted in the $22.4 million renovation of the high school, and
WHEREAS, Judge Grahovac served as president and played an integral role in the Oak Creek/Franklin Foundation for education which will provide a substantial benefit to young people in this community for many years to come, and
WHEREAS, John was a volunteer Little League coach and volunteer coach for the Oak Creek boys high school summer league teams, and
WHEREAS, John was active in the Trinity Lutheran Church in South Milwaukee, having served as a deacon and on its Council, and
WHEREAS, John was a respected attorney, having graduated from Marquette University Law School, a member of numerous professional organizations and a founding partner of the law firm of Grahovac & Kallenbach, S.C., and
WHEREAS, John was deservedly named as the 2002 Oak Creek Citizen of the Year, and
WHEREAS, John was a devoted and loving husband to Debbie and father to Lauren, Nicholas and Emily and a regular attendee at musical and sporting events that the children participated in, and
WHEREAS, the loss of Judge Grahovac to his family will be shared by many members of this community whom he touched and on whom he had a significant impact.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Oak Creek for an on behalf of the citizens of City of Oak Creek that condolences be extended on the death of John E. Grahovac and sincere sympathy be extended to Debbie, Lauren, Nicholas and Emily, and to his brother, James, sister, Patricia and their families.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting and a suitable copy thereof be forwarded to the family of John E. Grahovac.
