Recommendation:  That the Common Council award the first 2004 street tree purchase, Project No. 04001, to Johnson’s Nursery in the amount of $18,314.00.

 

Background:  The first 2004 tree purchase, for 157 replacement trees, was advertised and the following two (2) bids were received:

Specifications were prepared addressing the following:

  1. Availability of particular species and cultivars
  2. Quality and size of trees
  3. On site selection
  4. Cost (considering quality)
  5. Nursery soil compatibility with Oak Creek

 

Based on the above specifications, Johnson’s Nursery is the only nursery that met specifications and could supply all trees requested.

 

This is the first planting phase purchase of the year.  A second and third phase will follow throughout the planting season (April through October).  We will prioritize replacement planting in the spring and early summer. Autumn planting will address species readily available in autumn and some new areas of planting.

 

Fiscal Impact:  Funds have been allocated in the 2004 Forestry CIP account
