Recommendation:  That the Common Council approve the recommendation of the Street Superintendent to purchase one (1) 2004 refuse collection, automated side loader from Peterbilt of Wisconsin in the amount of $146,417.00.

 

Background:  The Street Department sent out bids to local truck dealers and received four (4) bids.

 

This truck will replace a regular side loader.  An older rear loader will be sent to auction.

All truck dealers’ bids included an automated side loader Labrie Expert 2000 with cool hand arm with Joystick controls.  Stepp Equipment is the dealer for these trucks and submitted an option to purchase a demo with approximately 160 hours.  They will honor their warranty as they would a new refuse collector body for a cost savings of $11,458.00.

 

Peterbilt is supplying their truck in 120 days versus 150-180 days for Badger Ford.

 

Peterbilt is giving us a stronger frame (3,063,000 RBM) versus 2,894,000 RBM for Badger Ford

 

Peterbilt is offering us a heavy-duty front suspension (20,000 lbs.) versus 16,000 lbs. for Badger Ford.

 

Peterbilt is providing 58,000 GVW versus 56,000 for Badger Ford.

 

Peterbilt is providing air conditioning for a lower price ($757.00) versus $1,000 for Badger Ford.

 

The $626.00 difference in price more from Peterbilt versus Badger Ford is money will spent.

 

In speaking with Mayor Bolender regarding this purchase, he overwhelmingly agrees to purchase the Peterbilt truck.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fiscal Impact:  Funding of $136,000.00 has been provided in the 2004 CIP budget for this purchase.  The additional $10,417.00 needed would be taken from the 2003 CIP, Acct. 03024,  Street Dept. Equipment.
