City of Oak Creek
Common Council Report
Meeting Date: January 20, 2004
Item No.: 14
Recommendation: That the Common Council approve the Police Department’s purchase of one (1) 2004 Ford Crown Victoria marked police vehicle in the amount of $20,059 to replace a squad that was involved in an accident and determined to be a total loss.
Background: On December 30, 2003, one of the Police Department’s squads was involved in an accident. The vehicle was inspected by D & L Auto Body of Oak Creek and a State Farm Insurance adjuster who both declared it as a total loss. This squad had been in use for 7 months and had 31,996 miles on it. It was not scheduled for replacement until 2005. State Farm Insurance, who represents the other party involved in the accident, has agreed to make full settlement for the loss of the Oak Creek squad, including change over costs, in the amount of $19,290.54.
The cost of the replacement vehicle will be $20,059. This is based on the 2004 Value Bid which was awarded to Ewald Automotive Group. Copies of the bid specification are attached.
Fiscal Impact: The cost of the replacement vehicle ($20,059) will be taken out of the Police Department’s 2004 police vehicles budget line item #60490, with settlement monies being placed in the City’s Insurance Recovery Account to offset this expense.
