Council Proclamation 03-26

GRATITUDE AND APPRECIATION

TO

JACK UPHILL, CHRIS UPHILL, ROY BULGER AND MICHAEL LAMPE

Whereas, On April 15, 2003 the City of Oak Creek was struck by a  major grass fire and a fire in a six-unit residential building; and

Whereas, the fires required a response that reached Five Alarms, utilizing units from the Oak Creek Fire Department and 14 additional fire departments; and

Whereas, even with the response of 170 fire fighters, the fire fighters were stretched to the limit to respond to homes and businesses that were threatened by the fire; and

Whereas, citizens of the City of Oak Creek responded to the aid of their neighbors and assisted with garden hoses and available tools; and

Whereas, their efforts were instrumental in preventing property losses that could have devastated the community; and

Whereas, many citizens and City employees assisted emergency workers by directing traffic, providing water to emergency crews, etc.; and

Whereas, Jack Uphill, Chris Uphill, Roy Bulger and Michael Lampe were particularly instrumental in stopping a fire that threatened a home on S. Pennsylvania Avenue; and

Whereas, without their willingness to come to the aid of those in need, an entire home and its contents may have been lost to the fire.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Oak Creek for and on behalf of the citizens of the City of Oak Creek, that sincere gratitude and appreciation be extended to Jack Uphill, Chris Uphill, Roy Bulger and Michael Lampe.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council recognize that it is the care and concern of our citizens for each other that truly makes Oak Creek a special place to live; and

This was made evident by the actions of these four people and many other citizens who we are not able to recognize by name, but who also earned our thanks and the thanks of the community.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting and that the City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit a suitable copy thereof to Jack Uphill, Chris Uphill, Roy Bulger and Michael Lampe.
