Recommendation:  That the Common Council adopt Resolution No. 10266-081903, a resolution designating the police station site at 301 W. Ryan Road as a nature center (Tax Key No. 906-9026) (5th Aldermanic District).

 

Background:  The site, building and landscape plans for the police station at 301 W. Ryan Road were approved by the Planning Commission and a contract for these plans was awarded by the Common Council.  The landscape plan included a natural lawn.  Section 8.06 of the Municipal Code prohibits the growth of natural lawns in non-agricultural land in excess of twelve inches in height unless the Council designates the property by resolution as a nature center or wildlife preserve.

RESOLUTION NO. 10266-081903

RESOLUTION DESIGNATING 301 W. RYAN ROAD AS A NATURE CENTER

 

(TAX KEY NOS. 906-9026)

                                                                             

 

WHEREAS, the City of Oak Creek constructed a police station on the City-owned property located at 301 W. Ryan Road; and

 

WHEREAS, the landscape plan included to lawn to be seeded with a wet prairie mix and wildflower and native grass mix; and

 

WHEREAS, the Planning Commission approved the site and building plans for the police station; and

 

WHEREAS, the Common Council awarded the contract for the police station which included the prairie plantings.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Oak Creek that the lawn of the Oak Creek Police Station located at 301 W. Ryan Road is designated as a nature center to include wet prairie plantings, wildflower and native grass plantings and that the lawn is to be maintained as a prairie.

 

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Common Council of the City of Oak Creek held this 19th day of August, 2003.
