Recommendation:  That the Common Council acknowledge the roster of members of the Veterans Memorial Committee and authorize the Committee to incur fund-raising expenses for the Memorial Fund prior to receipt of fund-raising revenues.

Background:   At the June 3, 2003 meeting, the Mayor’s Ad-Hoc Veterans Memorial Committee was announced, but only two members were named at that time.  The Mayor has now provided names of persons to complete the roster:

            Conrad Linski              Amvets Post 60

            Gene Gosline              American Legion Post 434

            Lauri Phillips                American Legion Post 434 Auxiliary (to serve as secretary)

            Dan Zambriski             American Legion Post 434 Commander

            Tom Schmidt              VFW Post 8482

            Joe Maniscalco           VFW Post 8482 Commander

            John Edelblute            Lions Club

            Cynthia Lopez             Citizen representative

Ann Lampe                  Aldermanic representative

The Committee held its first meeting on July 7, 2003. Minutes of their first meeting, along with minutes from the first Veteran’s Park Project group meeting on June 23^rd, are included for reference.  One of the Committee’s tasks will be to conduct fund-raising events.  Because there may be up-front expenditures related to organizing events, the Committee will need approval of the Council to incur expenses prior to the receipt of fund-raising revenues.

Fiscal Impact:

Account 1200828270 (Internal Services Fund—Veterans Memorial) has been established through the Accounting office to record all expenses and revenues for this venture.
