City of Oak Creek

Common Council Report

Meeting Date: July 1, 2003

Item No.:         21

Recommendation:  That the Common Council approve the purchase of a limestone pedestal base from Mankato Kasota Stone, Inc. in the amount of $2,196.

Background:  The VFW, American Legion and AMVETS veteran groups had graciously donated a commemorative bronze plaque to be placed at the foot of the flagpoles at the new police station located at 301 W. Ryan Road. The City had verbally agreed to the mounting of the plaque on a pedestal base. We have obtained a very favorable proposal from the Mankato Kasota Stone Company for a solid limestone base matching the stone used on the exterior of the police department building. We have also gained the donated services of Leonard Miller to install the stone and mount the bronze plaque.

The dedication of this small but powerful reminder of our veterans’ commitment to the American flag would occur at the police station’s grand opening ceremony.

Fiscal Impact:  The total cost of the limestone pedestal base is $2,196. There are funds available in the contingency fund for the new police station building project #01006 to cover this expense.

Respectfully submitted,

Robert L. Kufrin

City Administrator
