City of Oak Creek
Common Council Report
Meeting Date: June 17, 2003
Item No.: 8
Recommendation: That the Common Council approve the purchase of 22 Motorola portable radio units and related equipment from Milwaukee 2-Way, Inc. The total cost is $15,004.
Background: The Fire Department budgeted $20,000 in 2003 for the purchase of portable radios and intercom system. In 1999 we purchased 19 Motorola HT1250 portable radios and related equipment. Since the purchase and use of these radios it has become apparent that the Fire Department has been very pleased with their performance. For this reason the Fire Department felt it was appropriate to purchase the same model radios. These radios will replace and supplement our portable radio inventory. This will allow all Fire Department personnel working on the scene of an emergency to utilize the same equipment allowing for a better means of communication. These units have advanced safety features include emergency notification and identification of unit calling.
The Fire Department prepared detailed specifications for the Motorola HT1250 portable radios and related equipment. The specifications were sent out to bid on May 22, 2003. Three vendors were able to meet these requirements. Milwaukee 2-Way was able to meet all the specifications and was the lowest bidder, as shown below.
