CONGRATULATIONS TO

ALLAN HOBBS

2003 OAK CREEK CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

 

WHEREAS, the Oak Creek Citizen of the Year Committee conducts an annual search for the person who, in its judgment, is most deserving of acknowledgment because of loyal, unselfish and patriotic service to the community; and

 

WHEREAS, the Oak Creek Citizen of the Year Committee has selected Allan Hobbs as its 2003 Citizen of the Year, for which he will be duly honored at a recognition dinner on Friday, May 16, 2003; and

 

WHEREAS, Allan Hobbs, having been a member of the Wisconsin Air National Guard for nearly 38 years, attained the rank of Master Sergeant, and received numerous awards, medals and ribbons, including the Southwest Asia Service Medal and Meritorious Service Medal, and served in Egypt during the Desert Shield/Desert Storm conflict; and

 

WHEREAS, Allan Hobbs, as a member of the Oak Creek Jaycees, has served in several leadership positions, earned the Distinguished Service Award for the state Jaycees, and coordinated a relief flight by the National Guard to Nicaragua which delivered needed dental equipment donated by a local dentist; and

 

WHEREAS, Allan Hobbs, one of the founders of the Oak Creek OJs, the organization of Jaycees over the age of 37 and one of the few such organizations in the United States, has volunteered at their annual softball tournament for the last 30 years; and

 

WHEREAS, as a member of the Oak Creek Lions Club, Allan Hobbs has served in many leadership roles and is the recipient of their highest award, the Melvin Jones Award, named after its founder; and

 

WHEREAS, Allan Hobbs, a member of St. Matthew Parish for 37 years, has served the parish as Home and School Association member from 1967-1989, and past President; Bingo Chairman; Youth Ministry Team member; Lector; and presently serves as Co-Chairman of the St. Matthews Building Fund Campaign.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Oak Creek hereby congratulate Allan Hobbs on being selected the 2003 Oak Creek Citizen of the Year.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this proclamation be spread upon the minutes of this meeting and that the City Clerk be and she is hereby directed to transmit a suitable copy thereof to Allan Hobbs.
