City of Oak Creek

Common Council Report

Meeting Date:  December 2, 2003

Item No.:12

Recommendation:  That the Council approve the recruitment of a Planning Intern.

Background:  As part of the discussions involved in the preparation of the 2004 budget, a proposal was made to fund an internship position within the Department of Community Development.  The purpose of this internship position is to assist in the preparation and implementation of a business retention and expansion survey for all commercial and industrial businesses within the City.

This position will be responsible for working with the Director of Community Development and the Community Development Authority to set up a database and to gather and input data to inventory the existing businesses within the City.

It is anticipated that this internship position would be approximately 21 weeks in duration with an estimated 8-12 hours per week.

Fiscal Impact:  Based upon an anticipated rate of $10/hr, this internship position would require funding of $2520 for wages to be funded through the consulting line item of Fund 31 (Economic Development).

Respectfully submitted,
