RESOLUTION NO. 10303-110403

A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE STATE LEGISLATURE

CONSIDERING CHANGES TO THE MEDIATION-ARBITRATION LAW

 

WHEREAS, the City of Oak Creek Common Council has long recognized the impact of the current mediation-arbitration law on local municipalities; and

 

WHEREAS, two legislators with local government backgrounds, Senator Ron Brown, a former fire chief and Representative Mark Gottlieb, a former mayor, introduced legislation to make changes to the mediation-arbitration law; and

 

WHEREAS, the purpose of their proposal is to encourage prompt and fair settlement of public employee contracts; provide local governments with greater flexibility to work smarter and more efficiently; and make the impact on property tax rates a factor in public employee bargaining; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Oak Creek Common Council endorses review of the law by the state legislature in an attempt to moderate the effects of the law on local taxpayers.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Oak Creek Common Council would like to go on record in support of the legislature considering changes to the mediation-arbitration law.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be and she is hereby directed to forward a suitable copy of this resolution to State Senator Jeffrey Plale and State Representative Mark Honadel.
