Police Aide Program
Original Post: Spring 2007 The Oak Creek Police Department is unique among other suburban departments due to its Police Aide Program. The OCPD currently has three Police Aide positions. The Police Aides are non-sworn position which means that they do not have arrest powers as a sworn police officer. The Police Aides are responsible for a multitude of diverse duties ranging from patrolling neighborhoods, apartment complexes, and movie theatres, checking houses for residents that are on vacation, assisting officers in booking offenders, and checking police department equipment. The Police Aides work hand in hand with officers learning what daily life is like as a police officer. Police Aides are equipped with a uniform, a bullet proof vest, a duty belt with handcuffs, flashlight, Oleoresin Capsicum spray (pepper spray), and a radio. One of the qualifications to become a Police Aide is the applicant should be pursuing a college education in law enforcement. The Police Aide position could possibly be one of the best education tools before entering the field of law enforcement. For further information about the Police Aide Program, contact Lt. Steven Anderson at 414-762-8200
