The E.R.U. is a part-time unit that currently has 13 sworn Oak Creek Police officers on it. The officers volunteer to be on the E.R.U. which is an extra duty. The officer’s ranks range from a team leader (lieutenant) to patrolmen. The E.R.U. is on call 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. The E.R.U. members will respond to calls for assistance on any day of week, during any conditions, within 20-30 minutes from the time of the page.

The Emergency Response Unit will respond to high risk calls for service such as:

  • Armed or barricaded subjects in a residence.
  • High risk narcotics search warrants.
  • Search and rescue operations.
  • Community emergency evacuations.

The members of the ERU train at least twice per month with a variety of special weapons and must maintain the highest standards set by the police department. The training is intense and exhausting. Twice a year the officers are also required to pass a difficult physical fitness test which includes cross-country running, strength and endurance testing, and technical skills tests.
