Roadway Safety
Located on the backs of every Oak Creek Fire Department vehicle, are these highly visable chevrons.
Be it day or night, the firefighters of our community are being protected by having the vehicles stand out for
the public to see, recognize
and hopefully slow down.

The Oak Creek Fire Department has outfitted the back of all of their vehicles with reflective chevrons.
Chevrons are the highly reflective red and yellow 6” wide stripes placed at a 45 degree angle on the backs of the
emergency vehicles. The chevrons are designed to make vehicles more visible with the goal of capturing a driver’s attention.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), which develops standards for the fire service, has mandated that all
new fire apparatus purchased after December 2009 to be outfitted with chevrons. The Oak Creek Fire Department has
taken a proactive approach and has used federal funds, that were received from the I-94 improvement project,
to retrofit all of the vehicles. Click on link to see full article.
