Inspection Department

The Inspection Department promotes the safety, health and welfare of the public by providing information and enforcing building codes and other regulations.

Department personnel serve the public by issuing permits, inspecting work done, and investigating complaints. The department provides information to the public and ensures that all building construction meets state codes and city ordinances. Staff members work with contractors and property owners to assist them in building their projects to code.

The department can make recommendations to the Common Council and other boards regarding changes to the Municipal Code. Inspection works closely with the Engineering, Community Development, Health, Fire, and Police departments, as well as the Assessor’s Office, to manage and track building construction throughout the City.
