What would you do if you couldn’t get out of the house for three days? Do you have enough water, food, medication, pet supplies? What would you do if you lost power? What would you do if you were told to evacuate? The Oak Creek Health Department will begin the “Twelve Months of Preparedness Campaign” in January, 2010 to help you develop a “Family Communications Plan” and emergency “go-kit”. The Health Department staff will give you ideas so that you can be prepared in advance to care of yourself and your loved ones. Knowing what to do is your best protection and your responsibility.
Each month the Health Department will post a new topic and a “Featured Item of the Month”. Some local stores have agreed to post a lime green sign around the “Featured Item”. For example, the January “Featured Item” is a duffle bag, gym bag, large tote, or plastic bin to assemble your “go-kit” items throughout the twelve months. Also during January, complete a “Family Communications Plan” so that you have important names, phone numbers etc. in a specific place. This information will be detailed in the January “Twelve Months of Preparedness” Newsletter (link found on the left margin). For February, the “Featured Item” is water. The participating local stores will display the lime green sign with the Oak Creek logo posted in the water aisle to remind you to purchase water for storage. Guidelines for how much water you should have if you could not leave your house and other information related to water will be found in the February Newsletter. Look for our Monthly Newsletters and “Featured Items” all year long.
